PARISH COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

January 22, 2018

 

Members present: David Holwager, Debbie Magiera, Amy Engle, Wayne Hokey, Debbie Weiss, Janet Sweet, Dan Sweet, Tom Munchel and Teresa Drake.  Also attending:  Barb Ringwald.  Absent:  Darren Klein and Father John Hall.

 

Opening prayer was led by Dan Sweet

The meeting was presided over by Dan Sweet.

 

David Holwager made a motion with Debbie Weiss seconding that the minutes from the November 27, 2017 meeting be accepted. Motion passed.

Financial Report –

 

Dan Sweet reviewed the Finance Reports for November and December. The checking account and the stipend accounts for November and December were reconciled.  Tom Munchel made a motion to accept the Finance Report with Debbie Magiera seconding. Motion passed.

 

Barb Ringwald reported on the audit recommendations.

·        A member from the counting team completes and signs the deposit slips, rather than Barb.

·        Mass stipend under funded June 30 balances don’t match

·        Father John Hall to sign final payroll forms.

·        Approval of NP20 Form was not included in the Finance minutes.

 

OLD BUSINESS

·        Parish Center Kitchen Renovation -

Teresa Drake met with some church members, Lois West, Mary Vogelgesang and Mary Williams for suggestions/recommendations.  Some suggestions which include Parish Council members suggestions as well were to move the refrigerator down to the south end of the deep sinks, new countertops and cabinets, remove steam tables. Other suggestions also included industrial size ice maker, larger capacity water heater, new (not commercial) microwave, replace kitchen door and frame, re-do and organize the storage closet (see next bullet point). Nate Logston recommended Leah Estes from Gillman’s to quote on the renovation.  Debbie Weiss suggested getting another quote from Davis Cabinets, located south of Hagerstown.

·        Storage Closet and Folding Chairs -

Closet needs to be cleaned out and organized.  Sort out brown chairs for Parrish Center use. Sort other chairs that can be used for Canal Days.  Sort wood chairs.  Announce in bulletin free will donation the month of March to those who could use the wood chairs and card tables. 

Tom Munchel made a motion to purchase 1 load of 82 to 84 chairs and one rack for storage with Debbie Magiera seconding.  Motion passed.

·        Security System and Automatic Open Doors Update –

Wayne Hokey said the system is in and he has reviewed the invoice.  Parishioners need to make sure the doors are locked as several times the alarm has gone off. 

The automatic doors have been installed and noted that their use by ushers has been very helpful.

 

·        Barb Ringwald demonstrated the new website.  Wayne Hokey will be adding previous month bulletins.  It will be live within a few days.  Council members thanked them for new design and update and pictures that have already been added to the website.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

·        Debbie Weiss reported there were problems with the sweeper working when Parishioners took down Christmas decorations and tried to sweep the carpet.  Tom Munchel made a motion to purchase a new Shark sweeper for up to $250 and Debbie Weiss seconded.  Motion passed.  

·        Energy Audit from Duke and lighting change recommendations –

An independent contractor has completed an energy audit for Duke Energy called the Small Business Energy Saver Program. Duke Energy has submitted a proposal.  These recommendations are tabled for more information on the program.

·        Volunteers –

A discussion was held about the need for more volunteers to help with snow removal of the sidewalks. Suggestions were to use the announcement system, the bulletin and our website to ask for volunteers.

Also coming soon is the sprucing up of the outside (e.g. planting flowers, spreading much, mowing, trimming and weeding) and the need for volunteers.

David Holwager will contact the Ag Department at Lincoln High School and place a spring plant order.

Upcoming Dates:

February 13 - 1/2 Center rented for Kiwanis Sweetheart dinner

February 19 - Beginning of “David the King Bible Study” during Lent at St. Elizabeth after Mass 6 p.m.    to7 p.m. on Monday evenings.

February 27 - Penance Service at St. Elizabeth 7 p.m.

March 12 - Extra opportunity for confession after Mass

March 18 - Community Lenten Program at St. Elizabeth at 6 p.m.

April 7 - Blood Drive at St. Elizabeth
